Now, entire process outsourcing gains pace

With the issue of outsourcing coming under heavy fire in the US and Europe, more and more Indian companies - including Infosys - are now turning to the `more acceptable' employee acquisition route to take on assignments from overseas clients.

Infosys, for instance, is in talks with some European banks and Japanese auto majors for taking over their IT functions as a whole.

Infosys Technologies Ltd on Wednesday said its former director Phaneesh Murthy has settled a sexual harassment lawsuit filed against him by a former female employee under which $80,000 have been paid.

Infosys plans ADS issue to lift overseas liquidity

Bangalore-based Infosys, which is listed on the Nasdaq, said the issue would be a maximum of 16 million shares, including a greenshoe, if needed.

This is the second time that Infosys has enabled holders of its local shares to sell them overseas, after issuing 5.21 million ADS at $49 each in July 2003. The move will help to improve the liquidity of the company's shares on the Nasdaq.

At the end of September, foreign institutional investors together owned 40.58 percent of the company's equity and make up for the single-biggest investor group, followed by the founders, who own 22 percent.


Infosys, MS tie up for $8m IT initiative

Infosys Technologies Ltd and Microsoft Corp announced a new information technology transformation initiative designed to help clients improve business performance.

Infosys and Microsoft have provided an initial investment of $8 million (around Rs 36 crore) together to deliver a portfolio of solutions and services that enable clients to realise a simplified, flexible IT environment, that lowers the total cost of ownership and accommodates rapid changes and innovations, a company release said here.


The solutions combine Infosys' consulting, research, intellectual property and project methods with the latest Microsoft .NET software.


Infy scouting for buys in US, Europe

To further its global footprint, software giant Infosys Technologies is scouting for acquisitions in the US and Europe besides increasing headcount and investment at its China facility.


''We are looking at acquisition candidates in many parts of the world, including US and Europe. We are looking at companies of all sizes that allow us to enter a new service or new vertical,'' Infosys Technologies Chairman N R Narayana Murthy.

IT firms caught in attrition trap

The astronomical growth rate in the software industry is comparable to only the rising attrition rates among employees.

Growth and attrition seems to be going hand in hand for most Indian software services companies.

Almost all publicly listed Indian software services companies have witnessed a rise in their attrition rates as compared to last year.

Among the top companies, Infosys seems to be relatively more successful in controlling its attrition rate.

Infosys' net addition to its workforce during the quarter ended September, 2004 was 5,030 people.
